This one cropped up on the usual auction site:
And a bit more on it (AT-6A s/n 41-0488): 2138th Base Unit (Pilot School, Advanced, Single Engine), Craig Field, Selma, AL. A court-martialed former US Army Air Force officer escaped from the Craig Field, Alabama, guardhouse, stole an AT-6A Texan and flew to Louisiana 11Nov44. He bailed out of the aircraft ten miles east of New Orleans, the unmanned trainer coming down early on 12Nov44 near the former Micheaud airfield, where Higgins Industries had constructed a war plant. The pilot parachuted from the plane at 5,000 feet above a swamp and made his way into the city on foot. He had tied pieces of his parachute about his feet and legs and hiked across the Marshlands. He swam several canals and spent one night in a lean-to he constructed by a waterway. He had been arrested the previous March for stealing $1,500 and an automobile from a fellow officer at Craig field. He escaped from the guardhouse and was retaken in Santa Monica, California, after a gun battle with police. His court-martial and sentence followed. The officer was captured in New Orleans by FBI agents. The assistant special agent in charge of the New Orleans FBI office announced that the pilot, who was serving a 30-year sentence at the Alabama field for violations of the Articles of War, was taken in custody in the cocktail lounge of a New Orleans hotel. He was dressed in the full uniform of a second lieutenant in the US Air Corps and was accompanied by a New Orleans girl whom he had known approximately one year. The agent said the girl was being held for questioning but he declined to identify her; she was about 25 years old. The officer was found guilty of violating eight Articles of War by another court-martial and sent to the Atlanta Penitentiary with a 30-year sentence.
