How the chain of command worked in air support in this incident?
I used to think that it was something like that: local commander evaluated the risks and sent a request for support, the request was approved by someone in CENTCOM's forward HQ in Doha and then it was all in the hands of JTAC team who directed Air Force to the battlefield. A bit simplified, I know.
But I read occasionally that White House was involved directly. In one article (can not find the link) Jim Mattis mentioned that it was him who made the final decision.
It would be interesting to hear the opinions of the forum's experts.
