This is a photo of a flyer my grandmother Helene Louise Richardson knew: he was shot down over Holland in 1943, so goes the family saga--she was a sort of den mother to a number of airmen, probably in Chatham, New Brunswick.

The man's name was apparently Stuart Hadley, but my genealogical team have had trouble finding him in the casualty records. If someone could name the plane--those six bottle clips on the fold-down panel might be unique?--it might help us find him.

Here is the link to the photo: it's about 10 MB, too large to upload here. http://darwinsys.com/tmp/photo1-stuart.png

Thank you for your interest.

Yep, it's a Battle. This type was withdrawn from operational service in July 1941, the last operational unit being based in Iceland.
The remainder were delegated to training duties, with a large number sent to Canada, under the Commonwealth Air Training Plan, and others converted to target-tug duties.
It's probable that the photo was taken during training, and the loss would have occured whilst operating another type, most likely bomber.
