Could I also ask for any translation found on this flag? My pictures aren't great but I can try and get better ones. This was father's who was a 5th Marine Raider.

The person who did most of the translating on the site hasn't been here for about a year. These things require quite a bit of work and I'm sure were emotional for him

I appreciate that response, thank you. And I am sure it is an emotional thing to go over - my karate teacher is in his late 80's, and I did not want to bring this to him. I will look elsewhere but once again thank you.

I tried using Google Translate

"Congratulations" seems likely, also "To", perhaps followed by the owner's name. I guess "Appetizer" is a mistranslation.
I suspect that the rest of the translations are probably names of well-wishers or relatives. Perhaps try Google Translate again with the image in different orientations, and with the flag stretched out a bit more evenly?
