I've been using Decalfix for a while now but sometimes I have problems with it taking off the acrylics and/or varnish. Can anyone recommend alternative.
Thanks.

I've used Micro Sol for around forty years, without problems. Sometimes, it may affect the acrylic clear coat, which might turn slightly cloudy, but this clears as it fully dries.
The Micro Sol is the decal softener, and Micro Set the setting agent, but they both seem the same to me, so I only use the 'Sol', especially as I have had problems with the 'Set' grabbing the decal too quickly, before accurate placement.

Micro Sol and Micro Set are definitely not the same!

Micro Set is a surfactant that ensures the decal will be fully "wetted" when it is first applied to the model. It helps prevent "slivering."

Micro Sol is, as the name implies, a solvent that softens the decal so it will conform better to the underlying surface. It goes on after the decal is applied. If you try to use it before, you may find your decal turning to mush as you try to move it into position! (Not saying it can't be done: I've actually done it. But you are risking a ruined decal.)

These products are not interchangeable and must be used in the proper order. I generally dip decals in Micro Set rather than water to loosen them from the backing. This will usually eliminate silvering.
