Yeah, there may have been loot buried there at one time, but unless the entire group was killed and buried alongside the loot (pirate style), then people knew about it.
And when the soldier drew the map, I can assure you the interrogators didn't just say "well, ok then" and filed the map away. They probably met in a back room and said "sh!t, what are you guys doing this weekend?".
