For those of you familiar with unbuilt US combat plane designs of World War II, the Douglas XP-48 was one of a handful of serious efforts by Douglas Aircraft at designing a land-based fighter plane in World War II. The XP-48 would have used a Ranger SGV-770 air-cooled V-12 piston engine, but the SGV-770 ran into delays and technical troubles, so the United States Army Air Corps shelved the XP-48 project.
