Eberhart Steel of Pennsylvania was commissioned to erect 50 SE5A from parts shipped over after WWI. Different engine a Wright-Martin built Hisso of 200 hp with direct drive and steel tube landing gear struts.
During the war Curtiss was to build 5,000 SE5A's but they took so long redoing the English drawings to US standards they only finished ONE before the war ended and it was so bad the government refused to accept it.
