It is difficult to supercharge or turbocharge an engine that uses a carburettor successfully. How did Rolls Royce do it?

I don't think it is/was difficult to supercharge an engine that uses carburator(s). Everybody was doing it - Daimler-Benz, P&W, Hispano-Suiza, Allison, Bristol, and a whole host of other British, American, German, Soviet, Italian, Japanese etc. engine companies.
