This cap has seen a lot of flight time. Evidence of wearing a head set for prolonged periods. The owners name and serial number are laid in. I'm hoping to connect the name to a WW2 AAF unit.
Thanks
Vic

Also, that color and material are more associated with ground service. The Aircorp tended to use a greener color. It's not set in stone, but that is the most likely origin.

Unlikely to be Bruce O. RANDALL as previously mentioned. That Bruce Randall has Service Number 17156995 not 01649916.
In fact, I found no match to that serial number in this file:

Yes, I'm thinking it's not worth the effort. However, this is a seven digit number. Eight digits from what I read started at the beginning of WW2. Also, the dash between the "o" and "1" was eliminated post 1942. Randall may have been in the AAF prior to the war. But still...it should show up.
Thanks

Prior to 1940, the Army Air Corps was using the WWI designation system, which had three letters used in a prefix system for personnel service numbers.
The "O" in Lt. Randall's service number is not a zero, it's the letter "O", which according to the pre-WWII Army service numbering system, denoted "Officer".
While his cover may be from the war years (1941 onward), his service number is from the 1930's.
