Hi, I'm writing from Italy, more precisely from southern Italy (Termoli). In recent days, this trolley and piece of the airplane wing, which is presumed to date back to the Second World War, was recovered 5 miles from the coast. Who could tell me which aircraft model it belongs to? thank you and forgive me for the imperfect english!!!

Looks like the main gear leg off a B-24. There were a lot of them based in Italy with the 15th Airforce, my father among them.

Thank you! it looks just like him!!! I live near the old Ramitelli airfield and a little further on are those of Madna and Biferno. In past years several wrecks were found: a P51 near the coast a few meters from my house at 4 meters deep. Then others were found a few miles from Termoli. In the 1990s, a crashed plane was found shortly after take-off from Ramitelli, two meters under the sand near a seaside resort. At the mouth of the Saccione river, a P51 plundered over the years, while two years ago, during the dive I found the Merlin engine of a P40 at 8 meters deep in front of my beach house. Recovery was never attempted, and I never told the authorities the exact location!! The sea in front of Termoli is full of wrecks, but I had never seen the wreck of a B24.

Hi,
in recent days I have been at the depot where the wreck is kept (seized by the maritime authority), it was not identified until, having shown your photos to the Coast Guard officer, the officials finally deduced that it was a a B24. This afternoon, the news of the official discovery came out in the local newspaper. The B24 is thought to have come from RAMITELLI airfield on a return mission from Yugoslavia. In the in the meantime a total recovery is being organised of the aircraft to try to identify it via the engine serial numbers. Attached is a photo of a "grella" that was used in RAMITELLI as a landing strip. At the end of the war the "grelle" were taken by the local inhabitants. There " GRELLA " in the photo was taken by my grandfather. It has been our property for over 75 years!!!
