Hi all

on 24 June 1944, one Ju88A from KG26 was allegedly "shot down by nightfighter at 1.40" and crashed "Bei Salbris, 50 km südlich Orleans" .

By chance, would one of you have more information about this A/C ?

WNr? Crew ? reason of the mission ? background ?

Thanks a lot, guys.

If you go to the Bundesarchiv webpages and look at file RL 2-III/847 (start at about page 440), you will not—at least I didn't—find any loss or damage from Stab, I. or II./KG 26 near that date.

For III./KG 26 on 23 June there was one aircraft shot down on an operation and one damaged (not by enemy action) during an operation; the next entry after that is for 4 July.

The IV. Gruppe (which I think was training on the Baltic coast) had aircraft damaged, not on operations, on 21 and 22 June.

Ok. Good . What about the Allies? Any claims?

There were large numbers of Ju 88s claimed (see here for example). Ju 88s from IX. Fliegerkorps bomber units operated over Normandy on most nights, as well as night fighters sometimes. The torpedo Ju 88s of (KG 26 and KG 77) were based in Southern France (e.g. at Istres and Salon-de-Provence) and came north less often.
