Hello, I got the hasegawa kit to do it today and I noticed there are 2 interpretaiton of the metal on that plane. Some do only one color of metal while other do multiple and I'm wondering wich is right

In the pic below it is quite difficult to notice if the panels of the metal skin were of different tones. Also it can't be found in images of other Tojos. The only difference is tone of the fabric covering of the control surfaces. The silver/aluminium paint used there , got the different tone in time. IMHO not being protected the the metal skin got the same mattish tinge overall because of the oxidation process.

so no variation on the metal? I'm guessing I'll need to do a black primer before applying the metal paint.

As I mantioned that above it is quite difficult to state. In the most of pictures with the Ki-44s the difference in the tone of the panels is not noticed.

Here is the Ki-44 captured and tested in the USA ... while the different tone of the fuselage panels can't be noticed the darker panels on the wing skin can be seen.

So to sum up ... if there was any difference in the tone of the panles it was a very very subtle and not always at areas we could expect.

so I'm not obligated to do variation of color on the metal? I think revell 99 could work, I also red the tail marking was red, not yellow.

Yep ... I agree. It just up to you only if you make the panels slightly different. Reagarding the red for the tail marking ... I would be quite careful. It looks like the pic could have been taken with the orthochromatic film what always results in the very dark appearance both of the yellow and red colours . However the red paint is more likely than the yellow one.
