I have read that some late Bf 109D (or possibly Bf 109D-2) had the E type of exhaust pipes however I have not been able to find many pictures of this, none of the pictures I found show the colour scheme or markings, being close up of the nose area. There is one that shows the stammkennzeichen under the starboard wing which appears to be T(?) C but I can't see the other two.
I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction of some pictures.

IMHO you mean the image with the Bf109D in the Dora with the code "BN" seen in the background. The foreground one has the "TC" code under the starboard wing. Am I right ?

As memo serves it is the same Bf 109 in the shot below ... the swastik on the fin is retouched because both of the images were offered on the Ebay site. The early Bf 109 belonged to the Jagdfliegerschule (JFS). The pics were taken at the Graz-Thalerhof airfield in Austria. I don't know the date the shots were taken but judging by the size of the LW crosses and the location of the swastika I say late 1940 or perhaps early 1941. In the case the camouflage was the standard Luftwaffe one for the planes at that time and consisted of the RLM 71/02 with mottling of the RLM02 and RLM71 on the fusealge sides and the RLM 65 on the undersides. The demarcation line between the top and bottom colours was quite high.

Thank you for that. Yes, I found the first picture but haven't seen the second one before. That gives me just the information I need.
