The P-26B (all 2 of them?) were fitted with a fuel injected model of the R-1340 - with the -33 suffix if my information is correct. The B models were flown a fair amount for evaluation. The P-26C was subsequently built with a regular carburetor controlled R-1340, but at some point the surviving C models were refitted with the fuel injected engine used on the P-26B, and apparently served out the rest of there time on this planet with the fuel injected engines.
What I am looking for is information on the engine and what the evaluation of the engine was at the time. Did it perform reliably, was it a maintenance problem, was it too expensive, etc? Any information related to this would be welcome.
