Thanks for the replies so far. These have thrown up a number of questions on my part.
GrauGeist,With regard to the A3N1 & A4N1 being operated by the Kaumigaura Ku,that would certainly make sense given the nature of that unit and indeed the Japanese wiki entry on that unit has both types of aircraft with the Kasumigaura Ku.Not sure what the reputaion of Wiki is among native Japanese speakers, but its a start at least. Are there however any published sources stating that the Kaumigaura Ku used these specifically types from Dec 1941 onwards. I know that the date is arbitrary, but I'm trying to follow up on the info in the Avions articles I quoted.
Shinpachi, many thanks for the images I'm grateful but again I'm specifically looking for Pacific War era images and sorry but not being able to read Japanese can't tell whether any of the captions indicate that the machines shown are post Dec 1941,although the A4N1 look like pre-war markings, though I could be mistaken.
I was however surprised by your statement that the A3N1 was an experimental fighter. Rather I believe that it was a two seated trainer variant of the A2N,with 66 built.. Here all the sources I'm aware of seem to agree that this is the case. I believe you're thinking of the Nakajima NK1F which was indeed a 7 Shi experimental fighter. With regard to the use of the A4N1 chiefly as trainers for Yokaren, this would be the area that interests me. Built up until 1940,so logically in use with units still post 1941,but which ones?
