Hello
A French friend owns 2 WW2 aircraft oil tanks that his father had recovered during WWII . He thinks, but he is not sure, that they belonged to a P-38. Could anyone confirm ? Best

Hi Daniel I don't know if they are P-38 or not but they look the same as P-47 Thunderbolt turbo supercharger oil tanks , would one of them be available ?, Regards Phil

OK Looks like "Tank, supercharger oil" GE supercharger No 30 in attached pix
This is P-47 but could be any a/c fitted with same or similar supercharger .
Hope this helps, would like to know whats written on side of tank

on P38, the cap filler is on the side and the tank is made of two halves shells which has the seam in horizontal plan,

it's probably a tank from P47 as mentionned above.

Waroff looks on the mark but check the mounting brackets for part numbers and if they are not the number he posted then post them here for others to research/identify.

Thank you all, On this picture, the support shape confirms that it could be a P-47 charger oil tanks Regards Daniel

this cap was originally on P38, but it could be used on P47 oil tank.

P47M & N, (seems no marking on P47B, C & D)

The markings on supercharger oil tank:
decal on P47:
PART NO 40120 (or 43018)
capacity 1.5 U.S. GALS

nameplate tack weld 4 corners on P38:
DRAWING NO 224017
capacity: 3 U.S. QUARTS
