These are some original Official US Navy photos from my collection. The photos are of a B-29 Superfortress. Based on the triangle tail marking, from what I could find, the photos would have been taken at North Field (Tinian airfield in the Mariana islands). I could be wrong though. I couldn't find much info on this specific B-29 in regards to what group it would have been apart of. I also have the original negatives that go along with the photos as pictured.

Good observation. And you can see the tail gunsight through the window. Then when you look at the first photos, I don't see any machine guns in the top turrets. Just the turret covers. Maybe it's taxiing over to a maintenance area where they will install all the machine guns and then "harmonize" them.

The stripped down version still had the tail guns. Not sure what the remaining turret positions looked like, but removing the guts and leaving the turret cover seems reasonable. Each turret position, without ammunition, weighed in at around 120 pounds. Ammunition would probably double that; more for the 4 gun. I've looked around for pictures of stripped down versions, but haven't had any success.

I'm guessing post VJ Day.
