Parts of crashed B-17 in Belgium

While visiting another WW 2 aviation enthusiast in the region I came accros a special item .
It's actualy a complete part of the after fuselage of a B-17 that crashed in the vicinity of Gistel ,near Oostende in Belgium.
As You can see it serves as a decoration in his back yard.
The man in question was in his twenties during WW 2 and collected other aircraft parts from a crash site near his home ( like windscreen parts ,bullets etc) which he gladly gave me.

IAny idea what prt of the B-17 it came from? Wing or fuselage? Is he sure it was from a B-17?

It's part of a B-17 ,that's for sure.
Looking at the picture I assume it is the starbord side aft of the waist gunners position.
 
IMHO you are right the skin is just of the area. The small round apperture and the left edge indicate that. The left edge is the place where the door was. There are still the two slots for the hinges seen.

I presumed it to be that area also.
