Thinking of my post here The coming $26 billion windfall for the Canadian Armed Forces. What to buy?
First caveat, it's 1956-60, and the governments and DNDs in London and Ottawa both see a need for a multirole fighter capable of both radar-guided interceptor and ground attack roles, including tactical nuclear strike. Hawker-Siddeley and its Avro Canada (including Orenda Engines) subsidiary combine efforts and London and Ottawa decide to go ahead with Sir Sydney Camm's Hawker P.1125.
It's now 1960 and the first aircraft are on the production line in Malton, ON and Surrey, UK. The sales and marketing guys quickly realize that they have a competitor to the new McDonnell F-4 Phantom II and other types on offer to the world's air forces. If we can get the P.1125 to market, what is its potential? Presumably the FAA might want it to replace their Sea Vixens, Scimitars and maybe later, the newly arriving Buccaneers.
