Growing up I had a coffee table book entitled American Warplanes of World War II edited by David Donald that was published in 1995. In it is a picture of a PV-1 in all white camo flying over some mountains. I've started Academy's old PV-1 kit and I'd love to paint it in this all white camo with the black de-icers standing out, but I can't find any information of these being painted all white. I know that Atlantic camo was gray and white. So my first question is is any one familiar with an all white camo used for ASW patrol aircraft, and my second question is if not, is this just a poorly colorized photo what rendered the gray in the camo as white? Thanks for any help!

If you have a close up look at the pic you may notice the darker top of the fuselage, horizontal stabilizer and the nacelles. So it means tha the kite wears the Scheme II ASW livery that consisted of the Dark Gull Grey at tops , the non-specular White on the sides and the gloss White at the undersides.

the pic source: the net.

Here you are the next scans of the PV-1 seen in your image. The darker tops can be noticed.
