There is an FM-1 fished out of Lake Michigan and restored that is on display at the Valiant Air Command. There is an F4F-4, I believe it is, that came out of the lake and was restored it to flying condition.
I used to do nose art, managed a ride in a TN-M/F? into and out of an airshow at Moffet Field. Whan leaving a truck came by, asked if we needed anything, "5 gals of oil will get us above minimums"! Holey crap!!!!

He had learned to fly routes based on one emergency landing spot to another one. When I took him to Lakeland in my Ercoupe he later admitted that flying direct was a new experience for a trip he had probably flown 50 times by his own approach.
