Though I think the guys would not have it any other way.
They died doing something they loved.
To them it's real racing and they are doing something they live for...
Making it ''safe'' just wouldn't be the same.
Besides, in context, more people die from falling down the stairs every year. (IOM 252 total fatalities since 1907 v 1,000 annually from falling down stairs).
Look at what happened to F1 when they made it so safe. Is that considered real racing?
Goodwood, IMO still has real racing, without the computers and gizmos. :)

Oh I'm not knocking it, try to watch every year and fatalaties happen in every sport. No matter how safe there is always a chance.
