Didn't know where to post this, so here it is
The Mikoyan Project 1.44 (NATO reporting name "Flatpack") was a Russian multirole fighter technology demonstrator developed to counter the American Advanced Tactical Fighter program. Launched by the Soviet Union in 1983 under the I-90 project, the aircraft featured a delta wing layout, front-mounted canards, and thrust-vectoring engines for high agility, alongside engineering designed to achieve fuel-efficient supercruise. However, severe budget shortages following the collapse of the Soviet Union delayed its construction and testing for many years. The MiG-1.44 finally completed an 18-minute maiden test flight on February 29, 2000, but the Russian government canceled the program later that year due to high production costs. The initiative was eventually replaced by the Sukhoi Su-57, and the single remaining MiG-1.44 prototype is now preserved at the Gromov Flight Research Institute.
