What a comedown!! Zwickau was where pre-war Auto Unions were produced. Thanks for sharing the video though, very interesting.

Been a fan of the Trabant since it was "reviewed" by Car and Driver magazine in the early eighties. Pretty neat to see how they were made.

I worked in Zwickau just after the wall came down, it was an "interesting" experience. When the wall actually came down I was in Paris, in the next days there were Trabbies all over Paris, people just loaded up their cars and headed west.

"Interesting" as "Hmmm. I didn't know that." Or interesting as in the Asian curse of "May you live in "interesting" times?
I was there for three months and the place was changing before my eyes. The temperature plunged to -40C one night and froze my water pump. I was in a panic as my car was never sold in the Eastern block. I found the address of a Volvo dealer, when I got there in a cloud of steam it was absolutely brand new and surrounded by equally new dealerships of all major marques but the road to it was still cobbled.

Die Kraft der Zwei Kerzen! A nice Trabbi I spotted while travelling round Germany last year.

Afrika Corps Trabbi

In Berlin you can hire a Trabant from Trabi World, which is just across the road from the former RLM building (!) in the city centre.

Kriegsmarine Trabbi

Excuse the tags Afrika Corps and Kriegsmarine, that was an in-joke about the limited palate that Trabbis appeared in.
