ANT-6 TB-3 M-17 bombers & R-6 cruisers
Tupolev TB-3+.jpg

Thank you for posting the information John.:)
Back in 2005 I was tinkering with the idea of building this one:

A regular flying aircraft carrier it was.

I gave up modeling in 2005. But that's another story.

The Zveno brought out a great interest in me. The TB-3 in this configuration
had a range of about 700 ml. (a calculated guess). Its normal range was 838 ml.
The two bomb laden I-16SPBs they each carried had a maximum range of
about 250 ml. So....let's just say that big old rig in its entirety flies out 300 ml.
and has to make an emergency ejection of the two little parasites because it
is being attacked by a flight of He.51s. ....:smirk:...:-s...OK, these I-16s are now bomb
laden which reduces their range even more....:shocked!::crazyeyes:......:angry5:.I believe I would try
to shoot down the idiot that dropped me that far from home before I had to ditch:2gunfire:.

It has an interesting quality about it, in that it has characteristics of modern and old design in one aircraft: It has a monoplane arrangement, yet has a boxy fuselage and non-retractible landing-gear.

The forward-upper fuselage kind of reminds me of a speed-boat hull a bit, including the shape of the wind-screen. The landing gears kind of have a quality that looks like something an old tractor-designer or bike-shop might end up building if they were told they needed to build something that would allow a heavy object that flies to land on grass if they never heard about an airplane.

What ? It would be better for him to keep the I-16s, and you all get shot down ?
Why not eject the I-16s, they get rid of the bombs and take on the He-51s, then maybe you all go back and face the commisar.

Sort of a losing situation no matter how you look at it.

I think the few times they used these in early WW2 were all night missions.
