Two near mid air collisions in USA this week

That was the bit that made me sit up & take notice. The actual avoidance manoeuvre didn't sound quite as dramatic as the news media would have us believe, which is not to underestimate the serious of the incident given it's potential outcome.

Not to be flippant, but I just like the idea that a Hawker Hunter is toodling around American skies well over six decades after it was built. Sucks that the incident happened, but I just think it's cool that a Hunter is up there flying.

They've always been around -- a guy I used to know died in one in Oregon a few years ago.

This one was down in Mojave California back in the 1970s.

Would not a "Near Miss" mean they hit each other?

One day in 2002 I was at the Melbourne FL mall, heard jet noise, looked up and saw a two seat Hunter flying by. Of course they have done modification and design work there for Northrop Grumman and unusual airplanes are more common than you'd think. They had a Canberra at the airport for years until they finally got tired of it cluttering up the place and auctioned it off. They had an abandoned Jet Provost for sale at the same time.
