In 1941 Ware of 228 Squadron designed a simple low level bombsight for ASW. It was manufactured in squadron workshops and fitted locally to the aircraft of at least five squadrons. It consisted of a front sight bolted on the front hull/nose and a rear sight inside the cockpit. Two were offset to each side so it could be used by the first or second pilot.
Can anyone point me to any images of Sunderlands fitted with the sight? I don't know how long it lasted but it was certainly replaced by the Mk III during 1943 and, possibly, the Mk II in between.
