I assume that everyone knows that Gabby's P-47, as depicted by both the Monogram and Testors 1/48 kits, featured national star-and-bar insignia under both the Right and Left wings?

Were any other aircraft other than Gabby's unit marked this way?

It became a "standard" marking for all P-47s in the ETO, with "oversized" star and bar under both wings. This was as an extra recognition feature, in order to prevent confusion with the FW190, as the P-47 was the only allied radial engine fighter in the ETO.

Yep. The RAF instigated the change over on the markings. From "Camouflage & Markings....."
