What is a Quonset Hut?

Obligatory Quonset Hut anecdote.

Neil Armstrong had his first airplane ride as a 5-year old in Warren, Ohio. His father was a tax auditor for the state of Ohio, so the family moved around a lot. I think he graduated from a high school in the Cleveland area.

At some time, a Quonset Hut hangar was erected at this little airport just west of Warren. By the time I came along in the 1960s, the airport had been replaced with a shopping center, but the quonset hut was now the Aerodrome Tavern. It was my grandmother's favorite watering hole. I shudder to think of how many 7&7s she'd consumed there over the years.

Alas, the quonset hut was torn down, sometime after the 1980s when I left town to move to Houston and my career at NASA. However, this has been erected to commemorate the event (since nobody had a Ford Trimotor handy):

We had them in Wildflecken, in Germany, for offices at the munitions point.
If they were insulated they weren't too bad in the winter, and we didn't have to worry about the snow load.
In the mountains in Germany it never got that hot in the summer.
