And relative to something we've brought up before, Steve Hinton says the Mossie is a large airplane and "it is not nimble."

I once brought up an occasion when the RAF Lancs were conducting a daylight raid on the Cherbourg area after the 6 Jun 44 invasion. They had Spitfire escort across the Channel, which was replaced by Mossies when they got to the target area. I had never heard of Mossies being used for escort, except for shipping strike missions. Well, turns out it is not very maneuverable. It can't hack daylight dogfights with fighter planes; it has to outrun them.
