Me again.
Still writing and I have a few questions about the Whitworth Whitley MkIII.
Question 1) I've found information that indicated that it had two Browning MGs in the ventral turret and that the nose gun was upgraded to a powered turret. I couldn't find out if the armament on the nose or tail guns also changed.
TL;DR Did the Mk III still have single Vickers 0.303 machine guns on the nose and tail or did they get an upgrade too?
Question 2) I've not come across much info on the illumination of the instrument panel when landing. Was it lamps shining on the panel? If so, were they UV lamps as later Mosquitoes had? Did they rely on radium paint on dials? Were they adjustable?
(Context I am looking for a way for my protagonist to realise that the pilots are having difficulty with night landings due to an excess of light from landing lights, panel illumination etc). If anyone has any info on the specifics of the official landing procedure at night, I'd love to hear it.
Question 3) The ventral turret. I'd initially assumed that the turret was dorsal and then discovered it to be ventral. That's going to need a rewrite. The question I have here is, what angle upwards could the turret shoot?
Thanks in advance. Your information to date has been illuminating and invaluable.
