Why did the British airforce adopted highly similar Hurricane and Spitfire at the same time? (1 Viewer)

This field mod was probably the inspiration for the manufactured equivalent Sherman M4A3E2 "Jumbo" which also arrived in small numbers, in time for the relief of Bastogne.

You couldn't be further from the truth. The M4A3E2 Jumbo pre-dates these field modifications. It had its origins in a request for a assault tank at the beginning of 1944. 254 were produced May-July 1944. But there seems to have been a certain lack of urgency at actually issuing them to units after they began arriving in France at the end of Sept 1944.

In contrast to Germans who totally cast aside He112 and He100 in favor of Bf109,The British decided to adopted both the Hurricane and Spitfire at the same time. Why is that?
