Not sure about the earliest use of the red dot star. However, The machine with the lowest serial numbers I have seen with that marking is the Pigeon Fraser Scout with both serial numbers 116 & 117,the first flying and crashing in December 1917. Wiki has the Star marking state side from May 1917,whether this is correct frankly I don't know. Perhaps somone has more info on the emblem's first use?
