Found in Suffolk field, can anyone help ID this ? Definitely a rifle round and too large for small arms - appears to have a solid metal core with lead jacket and larger than .308 calibre

Many thanks

Pointy or round nose?

If it's a round bottle nosed bullet then it's more Victorian era. Maybe Martini Henry or Snider? Won't be Lee Metford round nosed 303 as that's too small.

looks like a flat nose but maybe had a tip ?

Black powder era. Is that paper patch? .577 Martini? Certainly flat nose 577 were about. Certainly worth looking at.

Copper jacket, steel core, 0.50 inch, probably armour-piercing incendiary, which explains loss of tip.
The boat tail is the end that was in the cartridge case and is not the tip!
WWII era, used by USAAF.

Thanks - so definitely not pre war small arms ?
