Good day

I am new to this forum and I am from the Netherlands.
I would like some information about a WW2 propeller.
I came into possession of a propeller and I was told that it is from a B-17 aircraft.
Is there anyone who can identify it?
There is nothing to read on the edge, it is corrosion.
I only have numbers on the copper part, see photos
Its 66 inch long 167 cm and blade is black with yellow tip
I hope someone can help
Best regards
John

The shape of the prop blade indicates the Hamiltom Standard blade. The number S-50857-AB seems to be of the Hamilton Standard Blade Bushing Part Number.

How does the blade look from the front? The propeller on the B-17, DC 3, B-24 used a a paddle type blade model 6477A-0 that had a basic diameter of 11 feet 6-7 inches.

Thanks for your response.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow in the daylight

I took some extra photos and measured some sizes
If you would like to know anything else, please let me know
Best regards
John

Hi again,

THX for the images but we need to see the prop blade shape. The pics should be like the screenshot_6 and screenshot_13 takne vertically . The images with the blade seen partialy aren't too helpful. Also please check again on the blade root if there isn't any numbers stamped. Eg. 6477A-0 or 6353A-18, 6359A-18 or a similar one.

I hope the pictures are good now
The number can no longer be read on the ring
I can brush it off but the aluminum is in poor condition

OK. THX. Now it can be seen that it is the paddle blade type. A pity the rood is too corroded.

Here is a shot of the Hamilton Standard Propeller Blade "Paddle" type DWG No. 6477A-O. Similar?

B-17 blade _.jpg

Ok thanks for the photos
So I can assume it is a WW2 B-17 /B24 or Dakota C3 propeller blade?
And what is its value? I actually want it to go to a museum in the Netherlands
Best regards
John

IMHO you may assume that's the B-17/B-24 or the DC-3 one. Taking its length 168cm and that the blade is slight bend into consideration it is very likely.

Here the spec for the prop used ...

Regarding the value .. sorry we don't deal with it but you may check on it using the Google. There is a plenty of such items offered.

Thank you very much for the information and answers.
What is its value?

As I have mentioned it above, sorry, I don't know. But just use the Google. There is a lot of prop blades offered. So you may find the price range.

Thank you very much for your time and answers.
Now I can quietly browse and read your forum
which is very interesting.
keep up the good work:salute:

Good evening
The story may go a little further.
I heard from the person I heard the propeller from that it was a water discovery a long time ago near Zierikzee in the Oosterschelde in Zeeland (Netherlands).

When I saw the propeller I thought it might come out of the water.
Can it be found out whether a B17 B24 or Dakota DC3 crashed in the water near Zierikzee. (Oosterschelde)
I know that a lot of planes have been shot down in Zeeland by the Germans
Kind regards John
