Did the USAAF do performance testing on the Merlin powered F-82s, or did North American or the USAAF/USAF release performance info for the XP-82/F-82B as they did for the P-51H? I'd like to compare/contrast performance specs, namely top speed and rate of climb, and how that performance was obtained.
Namely, was the XP-82/F-82B ever tested in WEP/combat power, or tested an interceptor like the P-51H? I know that it was designed as long range escort fighter. But you'd think that if the Merlin Twin Mustangs flew under similar conditions to the P-51H (similar power to weight and power), it'd have somewhat similar performance.
Only specs I found for top speed was 482 mph, and a climb rate of 4900 fpm from an excerpt from a F-82 book that I'm considering buying. It however doesn't say what power or other settings were used.
