Shown here is the sole XPPB-1 Sea Ranger prototype in flight. At one time it was proposed to build at least fifty-seven of the large patrol flying-boats for the US Navy at Boeing's Renton plant. Due to changed ideas regarding maritime patrol aircraft the production of this aircraft was cancelled and the Renton plant used for the production of the B-29 Superfortress.
