During WWII the Bombay bomber-transport aircraft was used by Nos. 216, 117, 267 and 271 Sqds in the Middle East. As a transport the Bombay could carry 24 troops and as a bomber 907 kg (2,000 lb) of bombs on underfuselage racks. A few UK based aircraft ferried supplies across the English Channel before the collapse of France in 1940.
