Fairey Battle I

The Battle will forever be remembered as a combat aeroplane which seemed marvelous when it appeared in June 1937 and yet which, within four years, was being hacked out of the skies in droves (the story of the Douglas TBD-1 Devastator).

On 14 May 1940, in an all-out attack on German pontoon bridges at Sedan, 71 Battles attacked and only 31 returned to their bases.

The eample above was serving with 106 Sqn in 1938.
