Shown here are bomb explosions straddling German flak positions close to the shoreline on Walchweren Island, 30 October, 1944. This attack was carried out by Spitfire Mk.XVIs of the Polish No.131 Wing as a part of the 'softening-up' campaign by No.84 Group and the bomber forces in advance of the amphibious assault on the fortified island
