During the battle of the East Solomons Sea, 24th August, 1942, this TBF-1 Avenger torpedo-bomber belonging to VT-8 landed back onboard the USS Saratoga with it's landing hook not extended. After snagging the first barrier it came to a rather ungraceful stop further down the deck.
