James E. 'Johnny' Johnson

Shown here is Wg Cmdr 'Johnny' Johnson with his pet labrador Sally. He is seen here on 31st July, 1944 (at which time is score stood at 35) at Bazenville landing ground, Normandy, where he commanded No.127 Wing made up of three Canadian fighter squadrons. the decorations on his tunic are a DSO with two bars and a DFC with one bar. He ended the war as the RAF's top-scoring fighter pilot with 38 victories. Taken from The Royal Air Force of World War II in Colour.
