The Flower class corvette HMS Gloxinia then arived on the scene and took U-205 in tow, although the U-boat appeared to be in danger of sinking, and headed for Ras el Hilal on the Libyan coast. Two seamen from HMS Paladin went out in a cutter and boarded the U-boat. After a while they were given permisison to venture inside and, in spite of almost complete darkness, found books and other material which they passed To the cutter. But the U-boat was slowly settling and the two men were taken off. It went down just short of Ras el Hilal but a diver went down later and recovered more material, including an Enigma machine.
