The time between overhaul was 100 hrs less for the V1650-1 (400 hrs) than the Allison (500 hrs). It may not sound like many hours, but when you are operating thousands of aircraft the added cost and impact on availability would be significant. Ref TO 00-25-4 .

This is wonderful - manufacturers standard parts can be a nightmare to source. Have you ever come across Curtiss standard specs? They would be useful for our current rebuild. I have attached one of the few that I have.
Does anyone have any details of a P40E with "Pacific Fury" on the chin cowl? I believe it may have been operated by the 68th Pursuit Group which handed its P40 aircraft over to the New Zealand Air Force at Tonga. Thanks for any help.

The unusual looking gunsight in the P40N is a standard Air ministry gunsight (same as spitfire). A lot of RAAF aircraft appear to have had them installed. I have one of the mounts - it just bolts on in place of the standard late Curtiss gunsight yoke 87-69-952. I am not sure why...
