what I can find so far of RN ships lost in ww2 is 61 to surface ships,56 to subs,77 to aircraft,and 54 to mines
of those lost to surface ships,only 9 was lost to gunfire.
this is something i'm now looking in to.
I reading this virtualpilots.fi: WW2History-MeAndTheGustav.html and had a bit about the slats causing alot
of problem on landing.so could it be the slats and not the undercarriage,which caused most of the landing accidents.
in the back of a book on the Arado by J.Richard Smith. there a German report on the Arado and me262 with says that the 262 had poor roll and very poor in turn.
bits from a German tests on the 262 in comparison with the Ar234 from mid 44 "the forces on the ailerons were too high.flying characteristics were found to be particularly unpleasant,especially obvious was the much larger turning circle,
the reason to be found in the excessive elevator...
what I got for 109 pilot's made POW from July to October 1940 is 264,and for killed is 197, I don't know if that's any help
also what I got for Spitfire pilot's killed is 148 Hurricane pilot's killed is 214
and for Bf110 crew is 229 POW and killed is 184
