Here's my 1/48 Spitfire Mk XIVe highback completed as 'Blackie' MacConnell's mount at the end of the war while flying with 402 Squadron, RCAF. I believe he was flying this aircraft when he downed an Arado AR-234 in April, 1945.
It started life as an Airfix PR XIX, and was modified extensively to become a Mk XIVe.
I used Quickboost's Gyro gunsight, Airfix 1/48 Mk XIX, Barracudacast 4 spoke wheels, and cylinder head covers (to correct the short kit covers), Ultracast's Sitfire seat with late harness, access door, and Mk XIVe cannon barrels.
I filled the unwanted panel lines and blisters/intakes and camera ports with Zap glue and talc, Millput, or scrap plastic. I shortened the ailerons, scribed the appropriate panel lines, and added the blisters from stretched sprue and reprofiled Eduard FW-190 bombs, and cannon bases from aluminum tubing.
I scratch built the inner fuselage lower section to cover the wing root cavities, drilled out the lightening holes in the cockpit frames, opened up the rear bulkhead, opened the access door, built up the aft fixed canopy sill, replaced the cylinder head covers with the Barracudacast parts, and drilled out the exhaust, torque links and tie down point.

Decals are from XtraDecal, and Aviaeology stencils. Paints are Tamiya acrylic's, with weathering using Humbrol enamels and pastel chalk.

Hope you like,
Colin

Outstanding model Colin. I've often wondered why there didn't seem to be more attempts to convert the Airfix PR XIX kit into a XIV and you have proved that it's a viable option. The only thing I can see missing is the short IFF antenna under the starboard wing.
