Interesting. In my manual for the P-47N, there is a section devoted to using chemical spray tanks and an illustration that shows P-47N's flying across a beach ahead of landing craft releasing clouds of some substance.

The idea of chemical warfare is horrific, try and drop a bomb on me anyday over that.
