Buffnut/Parsifal you have nailed it, could not agree more. It is always difficult to correct "size up" your enemy. Underestimation and overestimation are both deadly to any army. Underestimation of the Japanese abilities gave them their eary success followed by an overestimation. In the end, their inability to maintain their armies coupled with the US almost unlimited resources/manufacturing proved their downfall
