The idea to carry smaller planes attached to larger aircraft has created some of the most strange and curious weapons used during the Second World War. Parasitic fighters were tried by the USAF after the war without favorable conclusions AFAIK.
Very interesting concept though that has been popularized by fiction writers.

Most of those pictures are from experiments the Russians conducted in the 30s.
Though the pictures of the I-16s slung under the wings are from them actually using the method to attack targets in Rumania in 1941, with some success.

The I-16s were used to "dive bomb" targets which were out of range of the normal I-16 or single engine attack planes and yet defended well enough that the parent 4 engine bomber had no hope of successfully attacking.
